Here I use the quarto template trestles and place the yaml label in this files yml.
Interestingly, if in the _quarto.yml nav code is like

navbar:
    left:
      - href: index.qmd
        text: Home
      - about.qmd # No href not text, directly the file name. 
      - href: Lightbox_Example.qmd
        text: Lightbox

The title will change the name of nav tab, even if in the _quarto.yml is label “About”, but only while in this page. The tab will display the title of this file’s yml, but when not in this file, the nav tab label will revert to the label from the _quarto.yml file.
